Today’s camcorders look less and less like their predecessors from ten years ago. The lost interest in video has instantly returned thanks to social networks and new devices that allow for more spectacular shooting. Thanks to smartphones with their processing capabilities, stabilized suspensions and ultra-compact action cameras. We’ll talk about the latter in today’s review. Specifically, the DJI Pocket 2.
Unusual design of DJI Pocket 2
DJI Pocket 2 is a hybrid of an action camera and stabilized suspension. On the one hand, the device is amazingly compact, like all action cameras. It fits in your pocket even with its protective case. On the other hand, three-axis stabilization works in it not less effectively than in similar professional solutions. The Pocket 2 can connect directly to a smartphone, forming not just a symbiosis, but a single unit for taking photos and processing video.
There is also the DJI Pocket 2 Creator Combo, which gives you true creative freedom. Many compact and very useful gadgets that it includes, will allow you to work in different genres: from shooting on a trip or trip to video blogging. For example, you’ll find interchangeable grip attachments in the kit. One of them allows you to mount the Pocket 2 on a tripod with a standard thread (folding table tripod is also included). The other is called the Do-It-All Handle. It also has a built-in tripod socket, duplicated USB-C charging jack and a headphone jack. It also connects to a wireless microphone, which is also included with the Creator Combo.
Getting Ready to Shoot with DJI Action Camera
To work with the Pocket 2, you’ll need a microSD card that supports 4K shooting. That’s right, this action camera can shoot in 4K. Don’t skimp on the card speed, because the maximum bitrate for video recording is 90 Mbps, just like professional models. The second necessary device is a smartphone. With it, the camera must be activated in the application DJI Mimo. You will then be able to use your smartphone to control the shooting, edit the video and publish it. The Pocket 2 is part of the larger DJI ecosystem, which includes both apps and accessories.
An action camera – and no shaking!
Stabilization system copes with its task on a solid five. On the move, on the run and even on the ski trip the picture will be smooth and jerk-free. The stabilizer supports four operating modes:
Follow holds the horizon steady, but allows you to tilt the camera up and down;
Tilt Locked holds both horizon and camera tilt;
FPV, on the other hand, allows you to move the camera however you want, it just smooths out any vibrations;
Gimbal Locked locks the operation of the stabilized suspension.
